Dog Training “Canine Good Citizen” (CGC) Training & Evaluation
The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Dog Training Program is a certification program designed to promote responsible dog ownership and encourage the training of well-mannered dogs. Here at the CageFree K9 Training Academy, our training director is an AKC certified Canine Good Citizen trainer and evaluator. The head of our training academy and our team of assistants will guide your dog through a 6-week intensive training program designed to achieve the objectives necessary to pass the CGC test. At the end of the CGC training program, our trainer will take you and your dog through the official CGC certification test. The evaluation consists of 10 objectives. All items must be completed satisfactorily in order for your dog to earn official CGC certification.
Canine Good Citizen evaluation includes:
- Accepting a friendly stranger
- Sitting politely for petting
- Allowing basic grooming procedures
- Walking on a loose leash
- Walking through a crowd
- Sitting and lying down on command and staying in place
- Coming when called
- Reacting appropriately to another dog
- Reacting appropriately to distractions
- Calmly enduring supervised separation from the owner
All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC program can apply for a certificate and special tag from the American Kennel Club stating that the dog has earned his or her CGC certification. All dogs, including purebred and mixed breeds, are welcome to participate in the Canine Good Citizen Program. Dogs must be old enough to have received the necessary immunizations including rabies vaccination. There is no age limit for the CGC program.
